Byron Dorgan: watching the monitors and we'll soon make it as a unanimous consent q. mr. dorgan: madam president, i would certainly agree to that when the senator makes it. again, let me just finish so that my colleague, senator mccain, can -- can say a few words as well. this amendment doesn't do a disservice to the bill. it is exactly in the tradition of what the united states senate ought to do.

Byron Dorgan: we cannot delegate responsibility. this financial crisis has imposed an enormous burden on this country. all of us hope can thrift country out of this difficulty, and we're work -- that committee with lift this country out of this difficulty, and we're all working to do this.

Byron Dorgan: what has caused awful this to make sure that -- all of this so ma from happening again. that's our responsibility. and in the grand tradition of the united states senate on select committees on big, big issues, this ought to be a bipartisan select committee with subpoena power to understand what has happened to make sure it can never happen again. with my colleague, senator one final point.

Byron Dorgan: i hope very much that we will be able to get you to take this without a recorded vote. my belief is there's probably only one person in the senate who at the moment suggested maybe a recorded vote is cessary. i'd like to talk to that's right person.
